Leo the Lion

22 July 2011

The Sun moves into Leo at 9:12 pm (pacific daylight time).

Leo is the sign of the Lion.  Ruled by the Sun, Leo is known for its desire to shine. And like the Sun, Leo is bright and warm and generous.  Leo happens at the height of the Summertime, it’s the Fixed Fire sign. Leo is all about the good times, and somewhat set in its ways.

Leo is the fifth sign, and therefore associated with the 5th House of creativity and extracurricular things.  Leo rules performance, it can sometimes be dramatic, it expresses itself. Leo creates its own perfect stage.

Here are some absolutely oversimplified ways planets might manifest in Leo (or the 5th House):

The Sun: Warm, Generous, Loves Attention

The Moon:  Needs to be Recognized

Mercury: Dramatic Speech, Shiny Words

Venus: Dramatic love, every romance is epic

Mars: Desires to be Noticed, Generous Fun

Jupiter: Dramatic Experiences

Saturn: Disciplined or Limited Creativity (you choose).

Uranus: Science Fiction

Neptune: Passionate Imagination, Redeemed by Creativity

Pluto: Dramatic Transformations, Powerful Outlets

Look to what house (or houses) Leo falls in your chart.  That’s the area that will be spotlit for the next month (especially when Mercury goes retrograde).

We all shine on,

Aspects vs. Transits.

One of the questions I get asked the most is if a birth chart is always the same, or if it changes as the current planets in the sky change.

Your natal chart, the map of the planets at the moment you were born, remains the same for you forever.  It’s like your astrological fingerprint, the map that the stars laid out just for you.  It shows some inherent traits and tendencies, although it doesn’t define exactly how those tendencies will manifest.  That’s up to you. These traits are determined by the placement of planets and points in the chart and the way they interact with each other. The contacts that the planets make to each other within that chart are called natal aspects.  These aspects are the building blocks of your basic make-up, the way you work.

The planets at this moment are also interacting with your natal chart. Like yesterday’s post about the Moon:  the Moon goes through all twelve signs every month and as it does so, it makes a series of contacts to each of the planets in your natal chart. All of the other planets, from fast to slow, do the same thing.  These contacts (transiting aspects), the ones that change on a day to day basis with the sky, are called transits.  Transits affect your chart and therefore your personal astrological weather.  Looking at the transits that are coming up for you can help you see what kind of energy you might be dealing with in the future as well as what you’re dealing with right now.  Looking at the transits that are affecting your chart can help you make the most of the weather.

They can be short lived, like any transit from a fast moving planet (the Sun and the Moon, Mercury or Venus) - or last for years, like any transit from an outer planet (Uranus, Neptune or Pluto).

Happy Trails,

Adeline

The Moon moved into Aries at 9:25 am (pacific daylight time).

Aries is the Cardinal Fire sign.  The glyph for Aries symbolizes the horns of the Ram.

Aries is action.  When the Moon’s in Aries, people start moving again.

Why it Matters Where the Moon is.

The Moon changes signs every two and a half days.  As it goes through each sign, it makes a series of contacts to each of the planets in your birth chart.  Since the planets in your birth chart are stationary, every time the Moon is in a specific sign, it will make the same aspects to your chart, in the same order.

If you pay attention, you might start to see that when the Moon is in Aries you feel frustrated but when it’s in Scorpio you feel super energized and social. You might to see that when the Moon is in Aquarius you have really intense dreams, or when it’s in Taurus you turn into a homebody.  Follow the Moon, and you start to pick up on the weather.  The Moon through the signs won’t always have the exact same manifestations, but you’ll definitely start seeing patterns in just a few months.

When you have an idea of how the Moon affects you through each of the signs, you can start planning things according to the weather.  If you know you usually feel frustrated under a certain Moon, you can plan for giving yourself more space and time alone.  If you know you get inspired under another Moon, you can plan to be out and about.

If you’re studying astrology closely, you can go one step further and look at the aspects the Moon makes to your chart as it travels through each sign and contacts the planets in your chart.  When the Moon conjuncts your natal Saturn, you might feel particularly lonely or sad.  When it opposes Pluto you might start feeling super interior.  Remember though - the Moon moves fast - so these transits last for one day at the most.

Here are some absolutely oversimplified ways the Moon might affect your Sun while travelling through the signs:

If your SUN is in ARIES. you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Cardinal signs (Libra, Cancer and Capricorn), but energized when it’s in fellow Fire signs (Leo and Sagittarius).

If your SUN is in TAURUS. you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Fixed signs (Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius), but energized when it’s in fellow Earth signs (Virgo and Capricorn).

If your SUN is in GEMINI. you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Mutable signs (Sagittarius, Virgo and Pisces), but energized when it’s in fellow Air signs (Libra and Aquarius).

If your SUN is in CANCER, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries and Libra), but energized when it’s in fellow Water signs (Scorpio and Pisces).

If your SUN is in LEO, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Fixed signs (Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio), but energized when it’s in fellow Fire signs (Aries and Sagittarius).

If your SUN is in VIRGO, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Mutable signs (Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius), but energized when it’s in fellow Earth signs (Taurus and Capricorn).

If your SUN is in LIBRA, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer and Capricorn), but energized when it’s in fellow Air signs (Gemini and Aquarius).

If your SUN is in SCORPIO, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo and Aquarius), but energized when it’s in fellow Water signs (Cancer and Pisces).

If your SUN is in SAGITTARIUS, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo and Pisces), but energized when it’s in fellow Fire signs (Aries and Leo).

If your SUN is in CAPRICORN, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Cardinal signs (Cancer, Aries and Libra), but energized when it’s in fellow Earth signs (Taurus and Virgo).

If your SUN is in AQUARIUS, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Fixed signs (Leo, Taurus and Scorpio), but energized when it’s in fellow Air signs (Gemini and Libra).

If you SUN is in PISCES, you might feel challenged when the Moon is in the other Mutable signs (Virgo, Gemini and Sagittarius), but energized when it’s in fellow Water signs (Cancer and Scorpio).

Remember: your Sun is only one of the planets in your chart - the Moon will affect all of the other planets in your chart as well and this will affect your personal “weather”.

It’s a marvelous night for a moondance,

Adeline

GLYPHS

They’re more than just a series of bad tattoos.

“Glyphs” are the symbols in Astrology.  These are the glyphs for each of the 12 signs.  There are also symbols for each of the 10 major planets, and each of the countless minor planets and asteroids.

Once you learn the glyphs (and it’s not so hard - you probably already know a few of them), you have a sort of shorthand for taking notes about astrology, and that makes it a much faster process.

For the next moon cycle (Aries through Pisces, not New to Full), I’m gonna use a lot of glyphs.

NEW MOON ON MONDAY ASTROLOGY

By Adeline Leigh

The planets are being particularly quiet.  Only the Moon makes any contacts, until Friday night, when the Sun moves into Leo.  This could make for a super long, drawn-out week that seems to take forever, or we can use the space to be creative.  After whatever got stirred up for you during last month’s eclipse season, you’re probably ready to take a break and lighten things up a bit. This is a good time for all of us to do that, as long as we remember to keep our eyes on the road.  Mercury will be turning retrograde in two weeks, so it’s time to start paying extra attention to details.  Watch out for a challenging end to the workweek, but plan on a decadent weekend that’s all about rejuvenation.  Next week: the New Moon in Leo.

ARIES

You might be picking fights.  You’re looking for some action this week, trying to get absolutely anyone to bite.  Watch out for letting old habits get the best of you, but don’t forget where you’re coming from.  You’ve learned some brand new, much more productive moves in the past few months and you’re about to get tested on them.  Remember how you might have done things before, and then look for the more creative solution.  The Sun’s move into a fellow fire sign will enable you to get your good energy back by the weekend.

TAURUS

Big talking.  Pay attention to what you promise this week and make sure you have the evidence to prove your case.  You’re trying to convince someone of something, and being challenged to find the resources to do so.  It’s as simple as figuring out why you’re pushing so hard for this outcome in particular.  That’s of course not as easy as it sounds, but it’s still all about discerning what you value most and really want for yourself. Once you’re sure of that, you might be surprised how much you’re actually willing to compromise.

GEMINI

You’re overflowing with gumption, and this is a good week for using that motivation to focus on whatever you’ve been putting off at home.  As Mars finishes up his tour of your sign you’re able to find the time and energy to complete all sorts of chores and errands.  This is extra lucky, since your Mercury ruler is preparing to turn retrograde.  Tie up loose ends, finish half done projects, and find a place for everything.  You’ll be glad you did.  The rest of the summer won’t leave any room for slowing down.

CANCER

Take some time out.  You’ve been going full steam ahead for weeks.  Even if you haven’t had an overbooked schedule, your thoughts have been racing by so fast it’s just as exhausting as any physical activity.  You more than deserve to take a step back and spend some quality time alone right now.  You’ll be able to get a much clearer perspective on what’s in and out of your control as soon as you detach yourself from the situation.  Once you can see that, you’ll also be seeing some potentials you weren’t paying attention to before.

LEO

A confrontation this week is all about showing you a side of yourself you’re not always willing to see.  Try to look at the entire situation from another person’s perspective and you’re liable to become aware of something you’ve been doing all along.  The good news is, it’s not necessarily something you have to change.  As long as you can accept that this behavior is a product of who you are and where you come from, you’ll be able to use the energy in a creative way, rather than being ashamed of it.

VIRGO

Navigation becomes trickier as your Mercury ruler slows down in preparation for another retrograde season. Mercury will be playing tug of war with Neptune for the next three weeks.  Neptune is the planet that’s all about blurring the boundaries, so this could leave you dealing with an added dose of miscommunication and misplaced memories.  Slow down and remain reasonable.  If you’re open to them, this time could bring some astounding revelations as well.  Pay attention to what’s right more than what’s wrong right now, and you’ll start to make some sense of things.

LIBRA

There are a couple of ways to deal with this week’s drama.  The first involves going superficial, detaching as much as possible, and making sure to keep it cordial.  That will separate you from the problem, but it might not help you solve it. The other option involves facing the situation head on so you can understand what it’s actually trying to teach you.  It’s all about being authentic.  Try to see the difference between the face you show the world and who you are down deep.  Right now, it’s way more about being real.

SCORPIO

Choose your own adventure.  Synchronicity and lucky encounters can be found all over the place this week; it’s as easy as stepping outside your door.  If you feel like doing exactly the opposite, remember this:  the more you can open up your circle of friends right now, the more resources you’ll have at your disposal.  Shutting yourself in will only limit you.  The people you meet right now can lead you directly to the thing you’ve been looking for.  Make it a point to find your way out into the world, and just see what happens next.

SAGITTARIUS

The power of the positive perspective.  Sagittarius knows more than anybody how much every situation is all about what we make of it.  Right now, you’re making the absolute most of everything just to set a good example for the rest of us.  That’s the right thing to do because not only is it teaching everybody about getting the best things for ourselves when we expect them, it’s also teaching you how to think that way for yourself all over again.  Keep playing the part and you’ll be feeling like yourself again in no time.

CAPRICORN

Pay attention to your dreams.  There are a million potentials you might not be letting yourself see right now.  The problem is, you’re dealing mostly with practicalities and there are plenty of options that have a lot more to do with intuition.  Look for clues when you’re feeling the most relaxed, and remember, the only way out is through.  The more you let yourself get tangled up in worry over the worst possible outcomes, the less you’ll be able to push ahead.  Let yourself believe in bigger ideas this week, and you’ll gain good ground.

AQUARIUS

Take what you’ve learned and go with it. Confrontations over the next several weeks will be testing your newfound ability to stand your ground while still keeping your confidence.  Remember:  your own, very strong sense of individuality is still your most valuable inner resource. Adjusting it from time to time doesn’t make you inauthentic; it just helps other people acclimate.  The more you can prove that being different doesn’t always mean being difficult, the more others around you will start showing their sincere side right back.

PISCES

The next several weeks are full of creative potential, but also the tendency to get stuck in fantasies.  Use the energy for forging ahead with any kind of project where you’re building something creative whether it’s art, food, or music.  But remember to put your real-world head back on when you’re taking care of the practical stuff, or you could find yourself stuck in the mire of miscommunication.  Make sure you’re hearing the full story, (as well as telling it) in any important conversation right now.  Misconceptions are liable to become exacerbated in ways nobody was anticipating.

Capricorn Full Moon

14 July 2011

The Moon will be FULL in Capricorn tonight at 11:40 pm (pacific daylight time).

The Full Moon is always a culmination point.  It shines a bright light on circumstances we’re trying to create for ourselves.  In Capricorn, those circumstances have everything to do with security and ambition and forging ahead no matter what.

New Moons are good for setting intentions and starting new projects.  Full Moons are good for letting things go.  It’s been a long, turbulent summer so far, so I’m sure we’ve all got some baggage we’re ready to unload.

Who else feels like howlin’?
