Pluto still counts.

Astronomy and Astrology are not the same thing.  Back in 2005, the Astronomers demoted Pluto to “dwarf planet” status.  But Pluto has been a powerful force in Astrology since its discovery in 1930, and remains so to this day.

Pluto (still) rules over Scorpio, the 8th sign of the zodiac.  Like Scorpio, Pluto is associated with powerful transformations.  Being a slow-moving, far away energy, Pluto works very slowly, but very deeply as well.  It tends to destroy and rebuild what it comes into contact with - but never overnight.  Pluto takes years to do its work.

Pluto moved into Capricorn in 2008, where it will be until the year 2024.  Capricorn is the sign that’s associated with authority, big structures and foundations, corporations and governments, among other things.  So one (very simple)  interpretation of Pluto in Capricorn is that it will be bringing powerful transformations to things like governments, corporations, structures and foundations.  The current recession has everything to do with Pluto in Capricorn.  There are governments and structures breaking down all over the world.  And this is just the beginning.

Pluto is dark, but it’s also necessary.  It’s not something we can hide from, so it’s useless to get superstitious and try to run the other way.  But we can try to work with it.  We can look at what’s going on in our world and the world at large and look at what the influence of Pluto might be, and how it’s pushing to make things better.  The things that are being destroyed right now certainly aren’t working that great in the first place, right?  Pluto eliminates what’s not working anymore.

Pluto turned Retrograde on Saturday, April 9th at 1:49 am (pacific daylight time).  Pluto is retrograde for about half of every calendar year, so this isn’t that unusual, but it is significant.  Retrograde periods tend to turn the energy of the backwards planet inwards, they are a time to process what that particular planet is trying to communicate to us.

Pluto is currently at 7 degrees Capricorn and will retrograde back to 4 degrees Capricorn before turning direct in September.  Where (what house) do these degrees fall in your chart?  Do you have any planets there?  What’s Pluto trying to tell you?

*

Here’s an interesting synchronicity. Pluto is associated with the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone.  Hades (Pluto in Roman mythology) was the Lord of the Underworld, Persephone was the daughter of Demeter, the harvest goddess. Persephone was beauty and light and very well protected by her Mother, who hid her away from all the other deities.  For Hades, it was love at first sight. He had to have her as soon as he knew she was there.  He kidnapped her and brought her to live with him and be his Queen.  Demeter, of course, was not ok with this at all, and basically stopped the fields from growing and the harvests from happening until her daughter could be found. This, of course, wreaked havoc and hunger on the system until eventually Zeus was forced to make Hades give Persephone back.  There was a twist however.  The fates had ruled that whoever consumed any food or drink while in the underworld would be doomed to stay there forever, and Hades, knowing this, had tempted Persephone with some tasty underworld pomegranate seeds that she just couldn’t refuse.  A deal was worked out, whereby Persephone would spend half the year with Hades in the underworld, and the other half with her Mother up above.

To me, Pluto Retrograde is his downtime, the time when he’s not with Persephone.  It’s interesting that this is happening during the Spring and Summer months (here in the U.S.) ~ Persephone’s light and beauty will be with us until she returns to Hades in early September, just before the days get cold and barren again.

If you know where Pluto is travelling through your chart over these months, pay attention.  You just might get some life-changing revelations.

Be Well y’all~

PISCES / CAPRICORN RISING / CAPRICORN MOON

You are a Pisces with Capricorn Rising and a Capricorn Moon.  Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac.  It’s a water sign, which makes it very sensitive to emotions, individual as well as those of other people.  Pisces is imaginative, artistic, and somewhat nebulous and hard to pin down.  A Pisces Sun makes you empathic, compassionate, and liable to get lost in your own daydreams.

Both your Ascendant and your Moon fall in Capricorn, an Earth sign.  Capricorn is concerned with ambition, with working hard and doing whatever it must do to get ahead.  Capricorn is practical, responsible and authoritative.  Pisces is concerned with concepts and ideas, but Capricorn is concerned with direct results.  Our Moon sign shows what we really need from life, what makes us the most comfortable.  With a Capricorn Moon, you need to always be striving for something.  This gives you a somewhat contradictory nature: your Pisces Sun wants to lay about and daydream, while your Capricorn Moon needs to be working toward an ambition.
The solution is as simple as fining a way to put form (Capricorn) to your imagination and emotions (Pisces). Chances are, this is something you do quite naturally anyway.
You also have quite a bit of Aquarius in your chart.  Aquarius is an air sign, and is mostly concerned with individuality.  Aquarius marches to its own drum.  It’s independent, rebellious, and sometimes eccentric.  Aquarius is also highly intelligent and inventive.    Chances are, you have your own specific likes and dislikes that have nothing to do with what everybody else is doing, and the tendency to do things your own way most of the time.
You can be somewhat detached, with only a handful of people who know you at your deepest, but you are not without a great number and variety of more casual friendships and associations.  You have a positive, cheerful presence and are typically generous with all walks of life.  This goodwill attracts people to you throughout your life; you’re someone who can find friends wherever you go.
Although you are typically fairly methodical and careful in how you go about your business you do have an impulsive side that brings out some rebellion from time to time. You have a tendency to feel restless in certain situations and want to just forge ahead without building a strong foundation first. It’s important remember that caution and planning can take you farther faster, or you could be prone to accidents and avoidable mistakes.
You are a highly sensitive person, and you have a very specific way of structuring your strong emotions so that they don’t get in the way of what you’re doing.   However, that structure can work against you from time to time.  You have a strong resistance to many of the psychological changes that take place for all of us, as we get older.  It’s important to be more flexible with what you’re feeling, especially if it seems too overwhelming.  The less resistance you have to those bigger feelings, the less they have the possibility of drowning you.
You have been lucky to have a good idea of where you want to go in this life, and have always found yourself on the right path.  You have the ability to get yourself however far you can imagine yourself going and experience a million adventures in the meantime.  Good luck to you!

Horoscopes for April 4 -10, 2011

NEW MOON ON MONDAY ASTROLOGY

By Adeline Leigh

GENERAL FORECAST

The big news this week is the planet Neptune moving into Pisces, the sign it rules, for the first time since the mid-1800s.  Neptune is another of the slow moving outer planets.  It takes about 165 years to orbit the Sun, spending more or less 14 years in each sign along the way.  Currently, Neptune has been in Aquarius since 1998.  Think back to what started developing for you around that time and ways that chapter might be starting to close.  Neptune will retrograde back into Aquarius in early August, and return to Pisces for good in February 2012.  Along with the planet Uranus changing signs, this is bringing a whole new generation and a brand new era for all of us.

The Sun runs into Jupiter in Aries early Wednesday morning, giving the week either a lucky spin or the feeling of massive exaggeration.  How’s it working for you?  Watch out for being accident prone, especially this weekend.  Pluto goes Retrograde in Capricorn on Saturday for the next five and a half months.  Hopefully this will help to ease some of the pressure.  Next week: a Full Moon in Libra.

  • *If you know your Rising Sign and Moon signs, be sure to read for those too
  • *Here’s a link to last week’s horoscopes.

ARIES

The birthday vibes continue as the Sun hooks ups with Jupiter at the height of your sign.  This is lucky weather, perfect for making big wishes.  Pay attention to your intuition.  There’s a way to find what you need, but you have to have a very clear picture of what it looks like.  As soon as you can grasp that, whatever’s been blocking you might just disappear. Right now, you’re getting the most from your motivation.  It’s working so well, you might be erasing bad habits with hardly any effort at all.

TAURUS

You’re about to see your potential in a way you never quite have before.  This week, it’s all about blending your imagination with your intelligence.  You’re getting visions of exactly where you’re heading, and it’s much better than you were even expecting.  It’s perfect timing because right now, you’re more ready than ever to commit yourself to a path of action.  The more you can picture for yourself, the more productive that path will be.  Things will be speeding up in your life sooner than you realize.  Get moving.

GEMINI

Missed opportunities.  Watch out for playing “what if” for all it’s worth. You’re dwelling on a certain situation instead of using it to show you how to do things differently the next time around.  Acknowledge where you’ve taken some wrong turns, but don’t get so caught up in mistakes that you can’t see the possibilities that are opening up right now.   You’re in the middle of a process that’s forcing you to be more honest with yourself.  It’s not always easy, but what it’s giving you in return is worth a double rainbow.

CANCER

People are starting to get more in touch with their emotions.  They’re going to need you around to help process these feelings and you’re starting to see examples of this all over the place.  Cancer can be more sensitive to what they’re feeling than the other signs, and sometimes that forces you to armor yourself in a way that nothing can get to you at all.  But this week, it’s a lot about admitting some vulnerability to a friend who desperately needs to see that others have gone through similar sentiments.  Helping them through will have you feeling even better.

LEO

Remember to check in every once in a while when things work out right: even a moment of remembering how hard you’ve worked to get here will help you keep it going for a long time to come.  This week will be bringing more awareness to the picture.  You’re realizing what you stand for and finding situations that let you be yourself to the fullest extent.  You’ll be seeing synchronicities all over the place.  Wednesday’s conjunction between the Sun and Jupiter is very lucky weather.  Take advantage of it.

VIRGO

Neptune’s dress rehearsal in your opposite sign is about to show you some ways you’re not quite being honest with yourself.  The more you know exactly what it is you want, for whatever the reasons, the more you’ll be able to find the way to take yourself there.  But if you’re trying to achieve something based on anyone else’s values, you’re sure to run into dead ends all over the place. This time around, it’s not so much about just  being practical.  Use your imagination.

LIBRA

You’re being faced with something big. What’s going on right now is showing you better possibilities, so that you can take the steps to make what you want to happen actually be.  You’re feeling some urgency, but it’s important to take a step back and look at the big picture.  It’s all about perspective. You won’t stop thinking about this situation any time soon, but you also don’t have to make it happen this very minute.  The more you can understand that, the more ready you’ll be to start moving.

SCORPIO

This is a good week for recuperation and chances are, that’s exactly what you feel like doing.  You’re stepping away from the action for a moment, taking some time for nesting and movies and comforts and such.  This is fine behavior, as long as you put a deadline on it. The goal is to restore your energy, not waste it all away.  Your Pluto ruler goes retrograde for five months starting on Saturday and chances are, you may be fighting against doing just that.  Try not to get too lost in your imagination.

SAGITTARIUS

This week brings you a chance to shine big, as the Sun inches closer to your Jupiter ruler in a fellow fire sign.  You’re able to be enormously productive right now, as long as you put your mind to it.  That’s good news, because you’re beyond ready to start sharing what you’ve been working on and putting it to use.  Look for an opportunity that makes you scramble fast to meet a deadline.  If you start to second-guess yourself remember:  you’re doing exactly what you know you should be doing, and other people know that too.

CAPRICORN

You’re recharging your batteries.  This week brings nicer times and less trouble.  There’s action going on for sure, but right now, you’re fine with letting somebody else be the boss for a change.  Make the most of the respite, but remember to check on the details from time to time.  Mercury is retrograde in Aries, and Pluto will be retrograde in your sign for the next five months beginning this weekend. Restoration now is all about helping you keep your own life in forward motion in the future.

AQUARIUS

Neptune, the planet that brings sparkle and fog to everything it touches, has been touring your sign since 1998.  Think about what’s gone on for you since then.  You’re reaching the end of a very definitive era, but it’s not completely over just yet.  Neptune will retrograde back into Aquarius in early August, staying with you until February 2012 when it enters Pisces for good. Fall and winter 2011 will be all about coming full circle.  In the meantime, Mars starts this week off on an energetic note, and you’re able to keep moving forward.

PISCES

Welcome home.  Neptune, the planet that rules your sign, hasn’t actually been in your sign since the mid-1860s.  It returned to Pisces early this morning for a 4-month stay that’s all about giving you a preview of your next era.  Pay attention to what’s happening this spring; it’s bound to show you some themes that will be around for a long time to come.   A merge between the Sun and Jupiter this Wednesday will help you feel more like yourself again.  Watch out for good vibrations all over the place.

The Moon entered ARIES at 4:16 am and will be NEW at 7:32 tomorrow morning (pacific daylight time).
The New Moon in Aries is always the first New Moon of the astrological year.  Some people, including me, think that this is when a new cycle really gets going.
Every month’s New Moon is a good time to try and make a fresh start somewhere in your life, to figure out some things you’d like to start doing better or even just differently, and make an intention to do so.  But the New Moon in Aries has the very most push.  Aries is the first sign, it’s pioneering, all about the brand new.
This year, the Moon and Sun will be joined by Jupiter for their monthly merge. Remember, Jupiter exaggerates everything it comes into contact with. The planets Uranus, Mercury (Retrograde), and now Mars are all in Aries as well, making this year’s New Moon a super powerful one.
What was going on in your life during the last Full Moon, in early March?  What’s changed since then?
This is a good weekend for making time for celebration, as well as first steps toward new intentions.  What are you planning on?

Aries Goes First.

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac.  It is action and energy and pushing forward to get ahead.  Aries is the Cardinal Fire sign, it’s a pioneer, Aries initiates.  It can be impulsive and aggressive, self-centered and argumentative.  But Aries always goes first.

Ruled by Mars, Aries pushes itself out of the ether of Pisces and starts making things happen.  Aries is enormously creative and resourceful.  Aries is never stagnant:  it has a quick temper and acts on whatever it’s feeling.  Aries can be kind of a know-it-all, but then so can a lot of signs.  Aries is naive, and usually a lot more innocent than it seems.  Aries can wear its heart on its sleeve.

Aries is associated with the 1st House, the house of self.  Aries is all about becoming aware of who you are:  how you perceive things and how you present yourself to that world that you perceive.  Becoming takes courage, and Aries is all about courage, but also competition.  Aries is always trying to prove itself, it would never back down from a fight.

Here are some absolutely oversimplified ways planets might manifest when they fall in Aries:

The Sun :: Born to Be.

The Moon :: Impulsive Emotions. Needs Attention.

Mercury :: Fightin’ Words.

Venus:: Likes a Chase.

Mars:: Hyper-Competitive

Jupiter:: No Limits.

Saturn:: Totally the Boss of You.

Uranus:: Pioneer in a Brand New World.

Where does Aries fall in your chart?  That house is sure to see activity in one way or another most of the time.  It’s also where the Aries Action is super intense right now.

Sunday morning brings a brand New Moon in Aries.  New Moons are the best times for setting intentions in motion.  Intentions that align with where the Aries Action is falling in your chart will be especially potent.

What are you wishing on?

~ AL

So in the midst of all the Aries action, we’ve been neglecting another fairly major transit that’s about to happen, when Neptune moves into Pisces, the sign that it rules.  It’s fairly major because Neptune is a very slow-moving, outer planet that spends years and years in one sign (it’s been in Aquarius since 1998).  Neptune will be moving to zero degrees Pisces at 6:36 am this coming Monday morning (pdt).
Since the outer planets move so slowly, whenever one crosses into a new sign it brings a shift in the general mood and focus of the world, it’s the beginning of a new generation.  Two outer planets changing signs around the same time (Uranus changed signs just two weeks ago) will be bringing some major changes to the world we know, and we’re starting to see evidence of that all over the place.
Neptune can be expressed as compassion, imagination, fog, haze and/or mystery. Neptune’s influence can make you selfless, or self-destructive.  It’s ethereal, elusive and difficult to grasp, kind of like the sign Pisces itself.  Neptune rules the collective unconscious of the masses and tends to have a lot to do with the trends that we focus on during certain ages:  from how we worship to how we dress, how we perceive our fellow people and what we do for fun.
In Aquarius, Neptune brought some fairly major changes to our world.  Think back to what your life was like in 1998.  Did you have a cell phone yet?  A lap top?  What about the Internet?  All of these things were around back then, yes, but they really started to take over when Neptune, the planet of imagination and the collective, began travelling through Aquarius, a sign that has a lot to do with the future and technology and inventions.  The cell phone you had in 1998 was pre-Neptune in Aquarius.  The smart phone you might have now is but one example of what Neptune in Aquarius brought to us all.  Or think about the Internet, and how much we rely on it at this point to do almost everything.  In 1998, we all had computers, but very few of us were using the Internet almost 24 hours a day like we do now.  Neptune has a lot to do with addiction, and how many people do you know who are currently addicted to technology?
Neptune hasn’t been in Pisces since the mid-1860s:  the height of the westward migration in America, missionaries and minstrels, anti-slavery and the Civil War. We’re about to start seeing some big shifts in how we treat the people around us as well as the tone of pop-culture. I’m looking forward to big, Neptune style changes in music more than anything else, movies and all kinds of things we do for fun will also be changing in some pretty major ways.
Neptune will be in Pisces until early August, when it will retrograde back into Aquarius to finish up some business there. It will be moving into Pisces for good in February 2012 and stay there until the year 2026.
How do you think Neptune in Pisces will manifest this time around?   Where is Pisces in your chart?
