The MOON moves into Sagittarius at 5:57 pm (pacific daylight time).
Sagittarius is the ninth sign, so it’s associated with the 9th House.  The 9th House is foreign travel, higher education, taking things to the very next level.  Getting to know the world.  The 9th House is your library, it’s where you study the things you really want to learn.  The 9th House is the whole damn world.
When the Moon is in Sagittarius, people want to take it farther.

New Moon on Thanksgiving

24 November 2011

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hang in there y’all.  With Mercury freshly Retrograde and the Dark of the Moon (never mind the Dark Moon before an eclipse!) there are plenty of things that might not be going as planned.  Make the best of what does come along, and you’ll likely end up having better than fun.  It’s also completely ok to keep it as simple as possible.  The dark of the Moon is tired times.  Make good food.  Enjoy it.  Sleep it off.

The New Moon happens at 10:10 tonight (pacific standard time). Chances are, when you wake up in the morning, you’re gonna be a lot more ready.

THANK YOU ALL gracias merci besos besos for reading.

The MOON moved into SCORPIO at 5:58 pm (pacific standard time).
Scorpio is the eighth sign, so it’s associated with the 8th House.  That’s Sex, Death and Taxes - all the stuff we’re not supposed to talk about.  Ruled by Pluto, the 8th House encompasses the shadow and the provocative and the dark and absurd.
The 8th House (and Scorpio) are way more comfortable than most with the things that are taboo.  Oddly enough, those seem to be the same things that we all share. Everybody poops.  The 8th House is the bathroom, where we take care of a certain kind of everyday business.
When the Moon is in Scorpio, more shadows come out.

Everything’s Goin’ On … (Mercury Retrograde +++)

22 November 2011

The next 24 Hours are full of action from the sky.

In plain English:  everybody wants to assert their independence right now.  Ideas, inspiration, opportunities are popping up all over the place and everybody wants to make it happen NOW.  The people who take that enthusiasm and work with it carefully, and methodically - the ones who stay the most realistic and ambitious about it, are the ones who’ll have the most success. They’re the ones who’ll plant some seeds right now that stretch far into the future, rather than impulsively blowing their wad.  In any case, things are going to be all mixed up and a certain amount of patience is definitely required just to get from A to B.

What you’re all wondering about:  Mercury will be stationing Retrograde late tomorrow night (11:21 pm pacific standard time). That’s energy lots of people are familiar with. It happens at least three times a year and has everything to do with lost keys, miscommunications, and the breakdown of stuff we use everyday (like computers and phones and television sets).  This is pretty bad news for Black Friday, and the busy holiday/travel season is obv not the best time for Mercury Retrograde - but remember as always: it’s just the weather.  All it takes to be prepared is a consistent plan B and some patience.  Mercury will return to forward motion on December 9, but remain in Shadow phase until the second week of January (click on the tags to the left for more).

The Rest:  The Sun, freshly in Sagittarius, will be making a trine to the planet Uranus overnight tonight (at 2:15 am pacific standard time).  That’s what’s sparking ideas and the push for freedom to express ourselves.  Mars will be making a trine to Pluto a few hours later (6:02 am pst).  That’s where the energy is ripe for planting the seeds. These aren’t aspects that happen every few weeks and the energy out in the world right now is super charged.  This sky is totally supporting our every dream, but we have to do some work first.  Maybe Mercury going Retrograde will just make it that more interesting.

Be Safe.

Sagittarius the Archer

22 November 2011

The SUN moves into SAGITTARIUS at 8:08 am (pacific standard time).

Sagittarius is the Mutable Fire sign.  Sagittarius is all about adventure and experience and exploring and the great outdoors.  Sagittarius is one of the most independent, freedom loving, freewheelin’ signs of the zodiac.  Ruled by Jupiter, Sagittarius wants to be everywhere.  It’s associated with preachiness and sportsmanship, and if you ask me, it’s totally about the rock and roll. Sagittarius is loud and free and not at all the kind of energy people don’t notice.

Sagittarius rules the 9th House, the House of higher education, foreign travel, philosophy and beliefs.  Sagittarius is faith and the glass half full.  Sagittarius is all about the journey and the good times.

Here are some absolutely oversimplified ways planets might manifest when they fall in Sagittarius (or the 9th House, or when they have significant contact with Jupiter, the sign that rules Sagittarius):

The Sun:  Student of Life.

The Moon:  Needs to be Free.

Mercury: Blunt Words.

Venus: Loves Adventure

Mars: Desires Adventure

Jupiter: Hot Air Balloon

Saturn: Strict Beliefs

Uranus: Freedom Lovin’ Humanitarian.  (The planet Uranus was in Sagittarius from 1981 to 1988 so it’s likely a lot of you have this placement.  It just occurred to me you might be the generation that helps save us all… )

Neptune: Loud Art.  (Neptune was in Sagittarius from 1970 to 1985 so yeah, if you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you have Neptune in Sagittarius, as do I.  Neptune in Sagittarius = the children of the Baby Boomers)

Pluto: Destruction and Rebirth of Beliefs …This is a hard one, because it’s so close.  Pluto was in Sagittarius from 1996 through 2008 - so we’ve all just gone through it together.  But think about the way the world was in 1996 compared to 12 years later. I think it’s fair to say we were all a whole hell of a lot more optimistic (Sagittarius) before the transit of Pluto through Sagittarius.  (The dream of the 90s is alive in Portland… ). George W. and  9/11 happened during this time, and that transformed (Pluto) everything we believed in (Sagittarius).  It was also connected to religious beliefs (Sagittarius).  Speaking of “beliefs”, pop-metaphysics like The Secret and What the Bleep do We Know also had some epic success with Pluto (power) in Sagittarius (beliefs). *Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 in ways that are completely obvious (the transformation (Pluto) of the Establishment (Capricorn).

Bon Voyage,

NEW MOON ON MONDAY ASTROLOGY

By Adeline Leigh

GENERAL FORECAST:

And… Here’s where everything really speeds up.  Get ready for the week that just keeps going and going.  Stuff gets started tomorrow morning with the Sun’s move into Sagittarius.  Venus and Mercury have already been in the mutable fire sign for the past couple of weeks, but this marks the true beginning of Sagittarius season.  The Sun will make an immediate trine to the planet Uranus in Aries (the first of the fire signs) overnight Tuesday to Wednesday, just hours before another trine between the planets Mars and Pluto.  That’s weather that can spell absolutely anything, especially when you throw in Mercury’s turn to Retrograde which happens late Wednesday night.  Stay aware of your surroundings, things could get weird.

Thanksgiving night brings the New Moon in Sagittarius, and a Solar Eclipse.  Eclipses are turning points, and they always come in pairs.  Eclipse weather tends to feel super deep and at the same time so far away.  You can tell something is happening, but you can’t yet quite see what it is or how it might shape up.  Eclipses tend to color the mood of the weeks before and after they occur – get ready to be feeling it until the end of the year:  the Lunar Eclipse happens December 18 during the Full Moon in Gemini.

***If you know your Rising Sign and Moon signs, be sure to read for those too!

ARIES

Read for last week and keep your eyes on the prize.  Thanksgiving night’s New Moon in a fellow fire sign is lighting up what you’re trying to accomplish, and your Mars ruler’s holdup in Virgo is making sure you mind the details on the way. The more you can access your serious side in the next few months, the farther ahead you’re about to get.  This is the time to sit down and create some very tangible goals for yourself.  Watch for a chance to prove what you’re getting started as soon as next weekend.

TAURUS

These days are bringing big changes, and the all adjustments that go along with them.  Remember you’re going forward, and that it’s happening fast.  Things really get moving this weekend, when your Venus ruler moves into Capricorn, a fellow Earth sign.  Watch for what you’ve been feeling to open up in ways you absolutely haven’t been expecting.  This is the good stuff, even if it might not be the easiest.  Emotions (and/or desires) will be getting more and more intense until Venus hooks up with Pluto at the end of next week.  Don’t forget to breathe.

GEMINI

Mercury, the planet that rules your sign, goes retrograde at least three times every year.  This year, it’s choosing to do so at the height of holiday shopping and travel. This could be wreaking havoc on all sorts of people’s plans, but chances are it will be making things very interesting for you.  Pay close attention to what’s developing with this week’s New Moon/Eclipse in Sagittarius, your opposite sign. Two weeks from now,  a Lunar Eclipse during the Full Moon in Gemini will be showing you the big results to any intentions you’re making right now.

CANCER

Watch out for the unpredictable, and remember you’re completely prepared.  You’ve had more unexpected detours than not for a while now.  This has sometimes led to moodiness, but even more importantly, it’s put you in a place where you’re completely aware of your own authority. Watch for a situation this week that enables you to prove that to absolutely everyone, especially anybody who might have been thinking otherwise.  Know how much power you actually have, and you’ll have no trouble finding it.  Use Thursday’s Eclipse to celebrate, and plan on slowing things down for the weekend.

LEO

It’s time to start putting yourself out there.  The New Moon in a fellow fire sign Thanksgiving night is enabling you to access your very most adventurous side and start acting on things you’ve been dreaming up forever.  You’re in for a chapter that’s all about taking ownership of the qualities about yourself that don’t quite fit the mold.  It’s going to be a challenging process, but also beyond worth it.  This is a good time to practice using what really makes you different with the closest people in your world.

VIRGO

Nothing’s making sense. Your best tactic right now is not trying to force it to.  With Mars freshly in your sign for an eight-month stay, you’re feeling urges and impulse and energy.  Keeping your feet on the ground is what will yield the best results.  Yes, you have a million places to go, but right now you’re only in the planning stages.  Absolutely keep your high expectations, but remember your patience and do the careful work.  Your Mercury ruler’s about face the day before Thanksgiving puts you absolutely in the mood for going over details.

LIBRA

Now’s when things start moving so fast, you’re almost afraid you can’t catch up.  Luckily for everyone involved, we all know that’ll never be the case.  The New Moon Eclipse in a friendly fire sign helps you see possibilities like you haven’t in ages and even better, you’ve got all the gumption in the world to pursue them.  Venus moves into Capricorn early Saturday morning.  The next phase is all about shaping your ambitious side.  You’re about to find plenty of ways you can really put it to use.

SCORPIO

Energy overload. The action between Mars and your Pluto Ruler is making you extra restless and ready for something to happen. It’s important to know that things are actually totally happening, just in an underground kind of way.  The good news is, that’s totally what you’re used to.  Use your gumption to get as many mundane tasks taken care of before Mercury turns retrograde and then start getting to the bottom of the mystery.  You’ll be finding all the clues you need in the meantime and actually quite enjoying that process.

SAGITTARIUS

Happy Birthday! This year, absolutely everything is on your side. You know this, but you’re having trouble finding a grounded focus.  Mercury turning retrograde absolutely won’t be making that easier, but it will have some absolutely epic results.  You’re about to remember a million things that help you see exactly where you’re going, and even better, how it’s more than you’ve ever expected for yourself. Any forward steps you make this week will yield immediate results. The New Moon Eclipse happens Thanksgiving night in your sign.  Get ready to see some old dreams come true.

CAPRICORN

Wait for the final results, there’s still a lot brewing beneath the surface.  A friendly connection between Mars in Virgo and Pluto in your sign brings you a further push to keep moving.  Check as much as you can off of your to-do list before Thursday’s New Moon.  You’ll be glad you did.  Things are about to get fairly distracting in the very best of ways once Venus enters your sign on Saturday night.  If you’ve been waiting to make some moves, this weekend is absolutely perfect for that.

AQUARIUS

There’s plenty on your side right now.  Use every opportunity you to make fresh impressions, random friends, and brand new starts.  Beginning with this Thanksgiving’s New Moon Eclipse in friendly Sagittarius, you enter a lucky streak that’s all about firing up your next era in the best of ways.  Even if you’re not sure how it’s supposed to look a year from now, it’s important to keep up with the things that are really going right, they’re leading to very friendly places.  By the time the weekend’s over, you’ll be ready to do whatever it takes.

PISCES

Don’t worry so much.  You’ll be in full swing way sooner than you realize and any insecurity you’re going through could very well be coming more from the people around you.  Watch out especially for feeling stymied or trapped.  You’re in the middle of a period that’s a lot about regrouping – taking how things have shaped up in your current circumstances and thereby adjusting your plans.  Taking some time out to do that before Mercury’s retrograde could be exactly the thing that helps you free up your mind.

The MOON moved into LIBRA at 5:16 pm (pacific standard time).
Libra is the seventh sign, so it’s associated with the 7th House.  The 7th House is directly oppositie the 1st House of Self ~ it’s the “Us” House, it’s all about partnerships.
That can be business partnerships or bandmates, as well as your domestic partner, but in the Houses as Rooms scheme of things, it’s totally the master bedroom.  It’s where you make the compromises for the other side, so that everybody can be more comfortable.

Sun Square Neptune

18 November 2011

The Sun Squares Neptune this Sunday afternoon at 12:44 pm (pacific daylight time).

That’s daydream weather, and it’s already beginning.  Watch for everybody to have their heads up in the clouds all weekend long.  This could clash with the Moon and Mars in Virgo - energy that’s way more specific.  Try to pin your details down before you get too lost up there.

Remember:  when Neptune’s concerned, reality is always sure to bite back, eventually.

(yeah, yeah, yeah ~ get offa my cloud!)

Repost: A Lot about Aspects and a Little Bit about Compatibility

This post is originally from late April, 2011… I’ve changed most of the text to reflect our current sky but if you’re trying to learn and you’d like to read more / see more examples, you can read the original post here.  Happy Stars!

17 November 2011

“Aspects” are the way planets communicate with each other, they describe what kind of contacts the planets are making to each other up above.  Aspects are an epic part of what determines the weather going on up in the sky.  Some aspects are considered “soft” (read: enabling) and some are considered “hard” (read: challenging).

The easiest aspects to understand are the conjunction, and the opposition.  A conjunction is when two planets are very close together in a chart.  Right now, Mercury and Venus are “conjunct” in Sagittarius.

There are thirty degrees to every sign.  Think of it like time: there are 60 minutes to an hour, just like there are 30 “minutes” (degrees) to every sign.  Right now Venus is at 19 degrees of Sagittarius, just ahead of Mercury, at 17 degrees.  (Sagittarius is the 9th sign, so think of it like Mercury is at 9:17 and Venus just ahead at 9:19). This conjunction would only be “exact” if they were both at 9:17 or 9:19, but it’s close enough (2 degrees) to have an effect.

Traditionally, a conjunction is considered a “hard” aspect.  But it really depends on the planets involved.  When two planets are in the same spot in a chart, their energies blend.  Take Venus and Mercury:  Venus attracts; Mercury communicates.  A conjunction between the two could manifest as everything from lots of talk or Gossip (Mercury) about the love stuff (Venus), to meeting (Mercury) someone you’re attracted to (Venus).  Since this conjunction is in Sagittarius, that energy is also involved: it’s blunt to the point of honesty and possibly a bit loud and obnoxious but ultimately, it’s all about the experience, L-I-V-I-N.

The most frequent conjunction is the New Moon, which happens at least once a month, when the Sun and the Moon merge in the sky. The next New Moon is also in Sagittarius, at 2 degrees (9:02) late this Thanksgiving night (10:10 pm pst).

An opposition is when two planets are on opposite ends of the chart.  Right now, the Moon is in Leo, the sign directly across from Aquarius.  The Moon is at 15 degrees of Leo, Neptune at 28 degrees Aquarius.  But the Moon moves fast, and will be at 28 degrees Leo by late tomorrow morning (11:06 am pst).  At that point, the opposition between the Moon in Leo and Neptune in Aquarius will be exact.

Again, oppositions are considered hard aspects, but it really depends on the planets involved.  The Moon moves so fast that it can make several aspects during the course of one day.  The Moon brings emotions, it’s “moody”.  Neptune is daydreams and movies and escapism.  These two actually play quite well off of each other, although it might not be the best weather for gettin’ things done.  It’s much better for creative stuff and taking a step back to fantasize.  But don’t forget how quickly the Moon moves on.  Any aspect involving the transiting Moon is pretty much a passing emotion).

The most frequent opposition is the Full Moon, which happens at least once a month, when the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the zodiac.  So the Full Moon in Leo always happens when the Sun is in Aquarius.

*

The soft aspects are the “Trine” and the “Sextile”.  A Trine is when planets are 120 degrees apart.  An easier way to picture this is by remembering the Elements:  Fire signs trine Fire signs, Earth signs trine Earth, etc.  Trines are enabling; they work easily together like BFFs.  That’s why Leo is supposed to get along great with Aries and Sagittarius:  Aries and Sagittarius are the other fire signs.  It’s as simple as that.

Right now the Mars is in Virgo, an Earth sign, and Pluto is in Capricorn, another Earth sign.  Mars is at 3 degrees Virgo and Pluto is at 5 degrees Capricorn.  Again, just like with Venus and Mercury, they are technically trine, but the aspect won’t be exact until early next Wednesday morning, when Mars catches up to Pluto at the end of the 5th degree.

Again, this is traditionally considered a soft, or an “easy” aspect, but it can have negative consequences as well.  Mars is energy and Jupiter is expansion.  Mars trine Jupiter could energize the lucky stuff, but it could also exacerbate (Jupiter) anger or violence (Mars). With astrology, you have to watch to see how things will manifest.

A Sextile is when two planets are 60 degrees apart.  Again, look to the Elements: Water and Earth signs are in sextile aspect to each other, as are Fire and Air signs.  So again, that’s why Taurus and Cancer are traditionally “compatible” in all the literature that you read:  Taurus is Earth, Cancer is Water, they’re sextile.

Sextiles are not as strong as trines, but they do bring opportunity, if you look for it. Remember our current Moon in Leo?  That’s a Fire sign, so it’s opposite one Air sign (Aquarius) and trine the other two (Gemini and Libra).  Saturn is currently at the 24th degree of Libra, so the Moon will be sextiling Saturn when it too reaches the 24th degree of Leo, the sign it’s in.  That’s early tomorrow morning (4:28 am pst), just a few hours before the Moon’s opposition with Neptune at the 28th degree.

The last of the major hard aspects is called a Square.  Squares are 90 degrees apart. An easier way to picture the square is by remembering the Qualities.  Each Quality includes four signs (one of each element).  Those four signs together form their own square:

Look just to the left of where Noon would be on a clock - that’s Venus in Capricorn, the CardinalEarth sign.  Directly opposite that is Neptune in Cancer, the Cardinal Water sign.  To the left, at 9:00 is Jupiter in Aries, the Cardinal Fire sign and directly across, Uranus in Libra, the Cardinal Air sign.  The Cardinal signs are: Aries / Libra / Cancer and Capricorn.

*

Cardinal signs Square (or oppose) the other Cardinal signs, Fixed signs Square (or oppose) Fixed signs, and Mutable signs Square (or oppose) Mutable signs.  So that’s why your very most basic astrology would say that Aquarius and Scorpio aren’t compatible:  they’re both stubborn, fixed signs. It absolutely never means any relationship is doomed.  (Remember too, that that’s just the Sun they’re talking about, and we all have a whole lot more to our charts!)

Squares are like corners:  they force things.  You get backed into a corner, so something has to change.  Let’s get back to the Moon in Leo, the Fixed Fire sign. It’s loosely opposing Neptune in Aquarius, the Fixed Air sign, but also loosely squaring Jupiter in Taurus, the Fixed Earth sign.  (Remember, the Moon is at 15 degrees.  Right now Jupiter is at 2 degrees - so this square is now separating and was exact when the Moon was also at 2 degrees, yesterday afternoon (1:33 pm pst).

The Moon is the mood and Jupiter is buoyant and optimistic - so even a square between the two is usually all about glass half full.  There’s another super important, long term square going on in the sky right now, between the planets Uranus in Aries (the Cardinal Fire sign) and Pluto in Capricorn (the Cardinal Earth sign).  That’s going to be going on for (seriously) at least the next three years.  If you read this blog, or any blog that has anything at all to do with astrology, you’ll be hearing about it left and right.  More on that square is here.

Still with me?

There are lots of other “minor” aspects that can be looked at (the quincunx, the semi-sextile, and on and on), but these are the best place to start.  If you’re new to Astrology, don’t feel like you need to memorize every one of these this instant.  Now that you’ve gotten a bit more familiar with what an “aspect” actually is,  a few more things will start to fall in to place!

By all means let me know if you have any questions.

Be well out there y’all,

Adeline

Mars Trine Jupiter

16 November 2011

The planet Mars (in Virgo) will make a trine to Jupiter (in Taurus) at 2:08 pm (pacific daylight time).

At it’s very best, that’s the energy of Mars enabling the luck of Jupiter to flow. This is gumption weather - people are energized toward the things that they most believe in and ready to do whatever it takes.   Because it’s taking place between earth signs, that makes it an auspicious time to plant productive seeds.

Mars and Jupiter typically trine each other once every few years.  Due to their retrogrades this is the first of three trines that will happen over the next few months: first in March 2012 and again in July, when both planets have moved into Air signs (Libra and Gemini respectively).

Use it wisely.  If you want to get moving, this is the week.

Push it real good…
