Opposites! Opposites!

- Jana Bouc

8 November 2011

In honor of Thursday’s FULL MOON, here’s a quick refresher on oppositions.

A Full Moon, remember, is always an opposition between the Sun and the Moon.  So the Full Moon will always be in the opposite sign that the Sun is in at the time. Thursday’s Full Moon is in Taurus, the opposite sign to Scorpio, where the Sun is right now.

There are 12 signs in the zodiac

The 1st sign, ARIES, is opposite … . . the 7th sign, LIBRA

The 2nd sign, TAURUS, is opposite… the 8th sign, SCORPIO

The 3rd sign, GEMINI, is opposite… . the 9th sign, SAGITTARIUS

The 4th sign, CANCER, is opposite… . the 10th sign, CAPRICORN

The 5th sign, LEO, is opposite… … .the 11th sign, AQUARIUS

The 6th sign, VIRGO, is opposite… . . the 12th sign, PISCES

If you’re just beginning to learn Astrology, getting to know the opposite signs is a great place to start.  At the very least, try to get to know what sign is opposite your own Sun, Rising and Moon signs.  You’ll get them all by heart before you know it.

Here are some things to remember:

*

FIRE signs are ALWAYS opposite AIR signs, and vice versa

WATER signs are ALWAYS opposite EARTH signs, an vice versa

*

Opposite signs will always be of the same QUALITY.  Cardinal opposes Cardinal, Fixed opposes Fixed, and Mutable opposes Mutable

Some say opposites attract.  How do you feel about your opposite sign?

You say tomato, I say tomahto ~

So Aries Rules *Everybody’s* 1st House?

Ok so … here’s one of the places it starts to get confusing.

Each of the 12 signs is *associated* with each of the 12 houses.  Aries, the first sign, has rulership over the 1st House, Taurus the second sign over the 2nd house, and so on. .  But if you’re a Capricorn Rising, then Capricorn rules your 1st House, not Aries. Right?

Right.  The sign on the cusp of each house rules that house in your individual chart.  But the 12 Houses are still always associated with the 12 signs, in the same order.

The 1st House is always associated with the self, action, and beginnings - and these are all Aries concepts.  But if your Ascendant falls in Capricorn, those concepts are also colored in a Capricornian way:  your actions are always ambitious, and the impulse of the 1st House is grounded by the Earth of Capricorn, you might have a more serious (Capricorn) childhood (beginning), your personality (1st House/Self) is smart and sarcastic and dry (Capricorn).

This also extends to the planets that rule the Signs and therefore the Houses.  Mars rules Aries, and therefore the 1st House.  But if you’re the Capricorn Rising person we’ve been talking about, doesn’t Saturn (the planet that rules Capricorn) rule your 1st House?

Yes.  See above.  The 1st House is associated with action and moving forward - Martian concepts, always.  With Capricorn on the Ascendant, that action is tempered by Saturn, the planet that rules Capricorn.

The planet that rules your Rising Sign, by the way, is the planet that rules your chart. So if you’re a Gemini - then yes, Mercury rules your Sun, and has everything to do with your essence, but if you’re a Gemini with Capricorn Rising, then Saturn rules your chart.  If you’re a Gemini with Taurus Rising, then Venus rules your chart.  If you’re a Taurus, with Capricorn Rising, then Saturn rules your chart.  If you’re a Taurus with Gemini Rising, then Mercury rules your chart.  The planet that rules your Ascendant always rules your chart, no matter what your Sun sign is.

NEW MOON ON MONDAY ASTROLOGY

By Adeline Leigh

GENERAL FORECAST:

Here’s where things start to shift a bit.  The planet Neptune has been Retrograde since early June and finally returns to forward motion this coming Wednesday.  This is a big deal because Neptune has been in the sign of Aquarius since 1998, but is about to move into Pisces, the sign that it rules, for a 13-year stay.  Now that it’s moving forward again, Neptune will quickly be gaining some ground and moving on to Pisces in February.  Any time an outer planet changes signs it brings a whole new generation along with it.  Much more on Neptune in Pisces to come.

In the meantime, Thursday’s Full Moon in Taurus is a good time to stand back and take stock of all the things you’ve started to manifest for yourself since the New Moon two weeks ago.  Chances are, it’s much more than you realize (unless you’ve gotten too lost in Neptune delusion, but remember!  Even the smallest steps count).  Mars moves from Leo into Virgo later that night.  This is a big deal because Mars will be taking an extended stay there – going retrograde this winter and remaining in the sign of order and health and perfection until this coming July.  Mars brings activity to the energy of the sign it’s traveling through.  It typically spends about two months in each sign – so eight months in Virgo is going to be a whole extra helping of details and neatness and minding our methods.  Be prepared to spend a fair amount of time getting things straight.

Last but not least, we’re officially in the shadow phase for the upcoming Mercury Retrograde.  Mercury will make an about-face the day before Thanksgiving and remain all sorts of backwards until mid-December.  We’re also in for a pair of eclipses, the first being a Solar Eclipse on the New Moon in Sagittarius on Thanksgiving Day.  It’s going to be a very memorable holiday season.

ARIES

You’re getting your groove back. Mercury and Venus moving hand and hand through a fellow fire sign enables your confidence and with the Moon in your sign, the week starts off on a very Aries-friendly note.  You’re learning how much easier things can be when you don’t resist them.  Your Mars ruler moves into Virgo Thursday night, beginning an eight-month period of adjustment.  You’ve learned a lot so far about compromise, by the summer of 2012 you’re going to make it into a strong and treasured habit.   Next week: watch for a streak of serendipity.

TAURUS

Thursday’s Full Moon in your sign is shining the spotlight on how well you’ve learned to use your optimistic side, and you’re starting to see more possibilities in even the most mundane challenges.  Take time out toward the beginning of the week to recognize that for yourself and use the boost in confidence to go ahead and ask for what you want.  Keep it realistic, but feel free to take on more than you normally would right now.  Mars moving into a fellow earth sign is about to bring you a very welcome boost in your gumption.

GEMINI

Watch out for the things you might be sweeping under the rug.  Chances are, you’ve got plenty of distractions right now.  If they don’t have to do with romance they have everything to do with creativity.  By all means, enjoy this – just remember how ignoring certain responsibilities can make them come back to haunt you in the most annoying ways.  That’s especially true when Mercury, the planet that rules you, is about to go retrograde.  Take care of your business first, then feel free to celebrate.  Even better, you’ll feel way more like doing so.

CANCER

Thursday’s Full Moon in Taurus is helping you remember all the ways you give certain everyday things your own very special spin.  There’s a creative side to Cancer that cannot be mimicked.  You have a gift for entertaining, the ability to make even the blackest sheep feel comfortable, and a sixth sense about what people need.  Use that to your advantage.  Just remember, it’s not so much about compliments as it is about regaining some confidence.  You’ll be asserting yourself in all the right ways as soon as Sunday when the Moon moves into your sign.

LEO

Neptune’s return to forward motion from your opposite sign could very likely amp your inspiration to even higher heights.  Even challenges will be bringing ideas –find a way to record the things you’re coming up with.  Sharing the creative process with others continues to be a theme for you, and is probably starting to feel a lot more natural.  Mars leaves your sign by the end of the week, helping you lose any tunnel-vision you’ve been having about certain surface what-ifs and desires.  Keep your eyes on the things you believe in for sure.

VIRGO

Now is the time to let go of absolutely anything that’s holding you back.  Thursday’s Full Moon in Taurus could be revealing certain situations that you just don’t need anymore and enabling you to move past what’s purely sentimental.  Later that night, the planet Mars moves into your sign for an eight-month stay, marking a significant period that’s best for pushing forward.  If you’re spending any energy on embarrassments or regrets try to remember this:  whatever you’re concentrating on is what’s about to grow in exponential ways.  Make sure it’s the good stuff.

LIBRA

Everything about the sky right now is bringing out your sassy side, don’t be afraid to show it off.  This week’s Full Moon in Taurus, the other sign ruled by Venus, is attracting intriguing new situations.  Accept even the strangest invitations and you’re sure to find some unexpected magic or at the very least, some beyond interesting things to talk about.  There’s more to be found in the less-traveled places right now.  Watch out for déjà-vu and/or digging up a very familiar, charming part of yourself you know so well, but somehow forgot about lately.

SCORPIO

Make sure you’re not just phoning it in. As much as you’re beginning to get frustrated with a certain process, remembering what got you invested in the first place will bring you a very productive second wind.  The more you know what you believe in, the more you’ll be able to prove it to other people.  Thursday’s Full Moon in your opposite sign is clearly revealing the difference between the things that are real and the things you’re just reciting.  Go with what’s real and you’re in for some epic strides ahead.

SAGITTARIUS

Here comes some social stuff.  Mercury and Venus are travelling hand in hand through your sign for the next two weeks. Watch out for having to choose between two equally enticing possibilities on any given day and always go with the one that lets you be completely yourself. This year’s upcoming New Moon in Sagittarius happens on Thanksgiving night, and also happens to be a Solar Eclipse.  You’re about to be opening doors all over the place.  Make sure you’re out and about and really looking for the ones that will suit you.

CAPRICORN

Read for last week.  You’re still picking up on the kinds of subtleties that often pass you right by.  It takes some practice to learn how to distinguish true intuition from just the noise in your mind, but you’re making giant steps toward getting there.  The Full Moon in a fellow earth sign is supporting every single good intention:  watch out for synchronicities that provide you with exactly what you need at the very last minute.  Don’t stop believin’:  the best part about your current process is all the faith it’s helping you build up.

AQUARIUS

Here’s where things really start to happen.  Thursday’s Full Moon in a fellow fixed sign is challenging you to prove how and where you’re completely ready.  Luckily, you’re feeling fresh bursts of energy this week with the outer planet Neptune finally returning to forward motion and on its way out of Aquarius.  Even better, Mars finally moves out of Leo, your opposite sign, helping you deal with less grief from other people and the outside world.  You have plenty of space to make whatever you want to make of yourself right now, take full advantage.

PISCES

Look for things to stay busy for the next few weeks.  If you know it’s coming, you’ll be able to welcome it in all the right ways.  Everybody you’re encountering right now has something significant to show you, and you have an equal amount of wisdom and feeling to give right back.  It’s all about exchanging energy, do your best to keep it positive.  That includes what you’re receiving as well as what you’re putting out.  Watch out for people who are set on keeping it grim and do your best to steer clear.

6 November 2011
The MOON moves into ARIES at 11:02 am (pacific daylight time).
Aries is the 1st sign, so it’s associated with the 1st house.  That’s your front door.  It’s what you look out from, and what people see when they first take notice of you.  The 1st House is your view. It’s how the world appeared to you at your very first glance, and how that moment changed your perspective.
When the Moon is in Aries, people think about themselves more.

The Moon changes signs about every two and a half days.  The Moon will be in Aries until late Tuesday night when it moves into Taurus, the 2nd sign.

Mars Opposite Neptune

4 November 2011

Be careful out there this weekend.  The Moon in Pisces is all about escapism, but the opposition now forming between Mars and Neptune, the planet that rules Pisces, is taking those urges to a whole new level.

Neptune is fog and blurred lines, blending into the ether and drinking too much. Mars is energy, action, aggression, sometimes violence.  Dress Mars up in Leo colors and he’s even more dramatic and all about showing off.  Put him in a tug of war with Neptune and all sorts of things could happen.  Good times start to border on dangerous when you combine the impulse of Mars with Neptune’s foggy thinking.

Neptune will be returning to forward motion this coming Wednesday morning, so it’s slow and still and extra powerful right now. This is weather that’s all about overwhelming you with fantasies and putting people up on pedestals and believing only what you want to see. Don’t let it drown you.

The opposition will be exact early Monday morning (4:36 am pacific standard time). Stay safe y’all

Repost: Houses

An astrological chart is typically divided into sections, like slices of a pie.  These twelve sections are called “houses”, but it might be easier to look at them more like “rooms”.

Let’s say the house above has 12 different rooms (ok we’re going to use that term super loosely and call some areas on the property “rooms” as well).

The facade, the porch and the doorway symbolize the 1st House:  the appearance, the personality, how one perceives (standing in that front door) and approaches the world.  The 1st House is associated with Aries, the 1st sign.

The gigantic walk-in closet off the master bedroom symbolizes the 2nd House:  the place where we keep our resources (there’s a safe in that closet where all the money and jewelry are kept).  The 2nd House is associated with Taurus, the 2nd sign.

The living room or den symbolizes the 3rd House:  where we communicate with others and take in information (via tv, phone and internet). The 3rd House is associated with Gemini, the 3rd sign.

The kitchen symbolizes the 4th House: home, family, comfort food. The 4th House is associated with Cancer, the 4th sign.

The children’s rooms, and especially their playroom would embody the 5th House:  a place for fun and creativity and self-expression.  The 5th House is associated with Leo, the 5th sign.

The servant’s quarters would symbolize the 6th House of work and service.  The 6th House is associated with Virgo, the 6th sign.

The master bedroom would symbolize the 7th House of marriage and partnerships.  The 7th House is associated with Libra, the 7th sign.

The bathroom would symbolize the 8th House of shared resources.  The 8th House is all about sex, death, and taxes: the things we all share but that are too taboo to talk about.  The 8th House is associated with Scorpio, the 8th sign.

The study, or library would symbolize the 9th House of beliefs and experience.  Especially if it were stuffed with plenty of exotic, philosophical books.  The 9th House is associated with Sagittarius, the 9th sign.

Dad’s Office would be the 10th House of career and public persona.  The 10th House is associated with Capricorn, the 10th sign.

The front parlor, where they entertain,  would be the 11th House of groups and friendships.  The 11th House is associated with Aquarius, the 11th sign.

The backyard, where all sorts of things are buried, would symbolize the 12th House of the hidden and unconscious.  The 12th House is associated with Pisces, the 12th sign.

These are of course, hyper-generalized definitions, but you get the basic idea.

Houses aren’t nearly as complicated as they sound, they’re simply the different sections of the chart that represent the different sections of our lives.

On that note, it’s Independence Day weekend here in the states  we just finished up with Halloween.  This holiday would be especially associated with the 4th House (patriotism, tradition, family)  8th House (shadows, scary, taboo) as well as the 5th (Celebrations), the 1st House (of independence)  12th (fantasy, disguise) and the 11th (Friendships).

Have Fun!

Adeline

Update:  This month, while the Moon travels from Aries through Pisces, I’m going to use the rooms that the houses (and therefore the signs) can be associated with to illustrate the Moonsigns.  Any post you see without a title means the Moon changed signs, which happens every couple of days.  Cheers ~

rock and roll Love.

2 November 2011

Venus and Mercury are both freshly freewheelin’ in Sagittarius.  That means people are getting adventurous, especially with the love stuff.  To make matters even more interesting, both will be making an easygoing trine to the planet Uranus overnight tonight.  That’s the planet that brings things out of the blue: sudden breaks and crazy surprises.  Under any circumstance, this is the kind of weather where people are just gonna do what they’re gonna do.  It’s the perfect night to go out and explore your wild side.

Shut up and dance,

Mercury in Sagittarius

2 November 2011

MERCURY moved into SAGITTARIUS at 9:54 am (pacific daylight time).

Mercury is the planet that represents how we communicate and express ourselves. It’s the way we use our words.  In Sagittarius, Mercury is loud and boisterous and sometimes a little bit preachy.  As in all the fire signs, Mercury in Sagittarius can tend to show off.  It’s a name-dropper, but it’s completely good-natured. Mercury in Sagittarius wants to pass the good times on.

Mercury is currently travelling hand and hand with Venus but will soon start slowing down in preparation of turning retrograde the day before Thanksgiving.  Due to that Retrograde, Mercury will be in Sagittarius an extra long while, staying there until early January.  Due to that Retrograde:  watch what you say in the coming days, it might come back to haunt you.  Mercury in Sagittarius can have a big, blunt mouth. It’s good to be honest, but remember people’s feelings before you are brutally so.

Bigmouth Strikes Again,

Adeline

Your Planets vs. Planets Now

Your birth chart is stationary.  If Mercury was in Aquarius at the moment you were born, you have Mercury in Aquarius.  If Jupiter was in Virgo, you have Jupiter in Virgo and so on.

The planets are always moving through the zodiac sign by sign.  Some of them move much faster than others (think the Sun, the Moon, Mercury and Venus) - they go through all twelve signs each year.  Some of them (like Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) stay in the same sign for years at a time.

As the planets move through the signs, they contact your birth chart in various ways. Each of the planets will aspect (make squares, oppositions, conjunctions, sextiles, trines) to the various planets as they sit in your chart.  These contacts (transits) are what shape your personal astrological weather.

Signs of the same element tend to enable each other.  So if you have Venus in Sagittarius and there are a lot of planets in Sagittarius, or the other fire signs (Leo or Aries), your Venus will be getting all sorts of support in doing what she wants to do.

Planets of the same quality tend to challenge each other.  So if you have Venus in Sagittarius, and there are a lot of planets in the other mutable signs (Pisces, Virgo and Gemini) - chances are things won’t flow as easily.  And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  Squares and oppositions force us to take action and grow in ways we may have been reluctant to try out.  A challenge to Venus could still bring big love.  Or at least the change that helps you find it.

The planets, where they are right now, and how they’re mixing it up in the sky, are always coloring the general mood and days and current events for all of us.  The Moon, especially, colors our day to day weather.

And the planets as they affect your birth chart each day color your own personal weather, and the way what’s going on right now is manifesting for you.

Follow the Stars,

Adeline

Venus in Sagittarius

1 November 2011

Venus moves into SAGITTARIUS overnight tonight (at 1:51 am pacific daylight time).

Venus in Sagittarius is outgoing and adventurous and all about having the very best of times.  When Venus is in Sagittarius, people follow suit.  Venus in Sagittarius takes chances in love.  Venus in Sagittarius is completely optimistic.

Venus has been moving through Scorpio since October 8.  Along the way she met up with Mercury, who’ll be following her into Sag later tomorrow afternoon.  Watch for things to get more social, boisterous and bawdy and loud.

Let the good times roll…

AL

Venus will be in Sagittarius until November 26.
