New Moon on Monday Astrology

Aspects vs. Transits.

One of the questions I get asked the most is if a birth chart is always the same, or if it changes as the current planets in the sky change.

Your natal chart, the map of the planets at the moment you were born, remains the same for you forever.  It’s like your astrological fingerprint, the map that the stars laid out just for you.  It shows some inherent traits and tendencies, although it doesn’t define exactly how those tendencies will manifest.  That’s up to you. These traits are determined by the placement of planets and points in the chart and the way they interact with each other. The contacts that the planets make to each other within that chart are called natal aspects.  These aspects are the building blocks of your basic make-up, the way you work.

The planets at this moment are also interacting with your natal chart. Like yesterday’s post about the Moon:  the Moon goes through all twelve signs every month and as it does so, it makes a series of contacts to each of the planets in your natal chart. All of the other planets, from fast to slow, do the same thing.  These contacts (transiting aspects), the ones that change on a day to day basis with the sky, are called transits.  Transits affect your chart and therefore your personal astrological weather.  Looking at the transits that are coming up for you can help you see what kind of energy you might be dealing with in the future as well as what you’re dealing with right now.  Looking at the transits that are affecting your chart can help you make the most of the weather.

They can be short lived, like any transit from a fast moving planet (the Sun and the Moon, Mercury or Venus) - or last for years, like any transit from an outer planet (Uranus, Neptune or Pluto).

Happy Trails,

Adeline
