Neptune’s return to Aquarius

Odilon Redon
Neptune’s hard to pin down. It’s foggy and nebulous, it’s the opposite of crystal clear. Neptune rules Pisces, and the 12th House of things that are hidden or buried way deep down. It can bring compassion and beautiful creativity - but it can also bring deception and confusion and addiction and delusion. Neptune rules music and movies and magic and miracles. Neptune rules glamour and alcohol.
Named after the Roman God of the sea, Neptune washes over the planets and places it touches. Neptune is powerful, Neptune drowns.
The glyph for Neptune is the trident:

Neptune is one of the outer planets - it moves very slowly, spending about 14 years in each sign. And like all of the outer planets, when Neptune changes signs it brings with it a brand new era, a new generation.
Neptune was discovered in 1863 - while in the sign of Aquarius, and has been travelling through Aquarius again since 1998. This past April, Neptune moved into Pisces for a preview of its tour through that sign (February 2012 - January 2026). Just last night, Neptune retrograded back into Aquarius to finish up some business there.
Think about what’s been going on for you since 1998. Can you see any chapters ending? The time between now and February will be bringing some things full circle. But remember - this is foggy, Neptunian energy and the endings might not manifest like you’re expecting them to. Neptune dissolves. These chapters will be blending into each other. If you know your chart, look to the cusp of Aquarius and Pisces to see where Neptune is transiting for you right now.
Also, look at all the things that have gone on in the world since 1998, when Neptune began its tour through Aquarius. Neptune has everything to do with what’s fashionable, and Aquarius is a sign that’s all about detachment and individuality and the future. Think about the internet in 1998 versus how it is now. Think about online everything. Everybody’s personal “page”. Smart phones. Texting. “Indie” stuff from music to movies becoming more popular - that’s a huge manifestation of Neptune in Aquarius. Remember utilitarian high fashion? That too. We could go on and on and on.
Pisces, remember, is the sign that Neptune rules. Neptune’s return to its hometown next year will bring a whole new era: hopefully with a lot of Pisces compassion and meditation and spiritual stuff. Things will be getting all sorts of new-agey again, fashion will get softer, people will be wanting to get lost in fantasy more than the future. The past four months have given us some hints of what’s to come, but it’s Neptune, so they’re nebulous.
Don’t stop believin’
